The No. 1 high school baseball team in that nation resides in Alabama, according to Baseball America.

AJ Kehoe’s Central-Phenix City Red Devils top the website’s list of the top 35 teams in the nation.

Central is currently 22-1. The Red Devils’ only loss of the season came against Mill Creek, Ga., 3-2 on April 2.

They are also No. 1 in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 7A rankings.

Central is scheduled to play a doubleheader with Pike Road on Friday.

Baseball America’s rankings are selected through a poll of representatives from the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. Representatives from 10 different regions nominate teams from their geographical regions.

Flower Mound (Texas), Doral (Fla.), Corona (Calif.) and Jackson Prep (Miss.) round out the top five.

Central is the only team from Alabama in the top 35. The Red Devils won the Class 7A state title in 2022 and finished as runner-up to Vestavia Hills a year ago.
