Which 2 Alabama cities made Southern Living’s list of the South’s best?

Southern Living has released this year’s list of “The South’s Best Cities,” and two Alabama cities are among those included — but which two, and where do they rank?

This list, which is part of Southern Living’s annual South’s Best awards, ranks the South’s cities based on readers’ voting, and while Charleston, S.C., took the top spot for the ninth consecutive year, two Alabama cities also garnered a spot.

For starters, Huntsville came in at 19th on the list, with Southern Living crediting its “low cost of living, high quality of life and a thriving job market” for making it a popular pick. In addition, the city’s greenways and parks; U.S. Space & Rocket Center; Lowe Mills ARTS and Entertainment and Campus 805 were also given shout-outs.

Meanwhile, Birmingham came in as 16th on the list, and Southern Living had this to say about it.

“We’re partial to Birmingham as it is the home of Southern Living, but readers love the Magic City as well. Downtown has a fresh buzz thanks to CityWalk, a 30-acre public space that includes a dog park, playground, and popular skate park. And the city’s dining scene continues to attract national praise.”

You can read about all of the Southern cities included on the list on Southern Living’s website.
