Where will Alabama will land in College Football Playoff rankings?
The first edition of this season’s College Football Playoff rankings are scheduled to be revealed on Tuesday. The rankings will be shown at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Given that Alabama football already has one loss on the season, to Texas, it seems likely that the Crimson Tide will be outside the top four when the rankings are released. Still, if UA can win out, it will have a strong chance of playing its way into the final playoff.
“I don’t pay attention to it,” Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson said Monday when asked about the playoff rankings.
During his Thursday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Alabama head coach Nick Saban discussed the rankings, saying they aren’t at the front of his mind.
“They really don’t matter unless you win the next game. They really don’t matter unless you win the next game after that,” he said.
Alabama faces off with LSU this week at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Before the rankings are revealed, here is how several major outlets are projecting the Crimson Tide will fare.
NCAA.com– No. 9
Stan Becton’s projections placed Ohio State at No. 1, followed by Florida State, Washington and Georgia. The rankings put Texas one spot ahead of the Crimson Tide, which is followed by Ole Miss.
ESPN– No. 8
The Worldwide Leader’s Heather Dinich slated the Crimson Tide one spot below Texas and one ahead of Oklahoma. She had Ohio State at No. 1, with Florida State second, Georgia third and Washington fourth.
Yahoo Sports– No. 8
Once again, the Crimson Tide is just below Texas here. The ranking also places Alabama one spot above Oklahoma, with Georgia at No. 1, followed by Michigan, Florida State and Ohio State.
The Athletic– No. 6
The Athletic used a formula to predict the top teams, and Alabama fared better than other projections, falling at No. 6. The Crimson Tide was two spots ahead of Texas in that model, with Oregon between them, and one spot behind Florida State.
The model put Washington No. 1, followed by Michigan, Georgia and Ohio State to round out the top four.
CBS Sports– No. 8
Jerry Palm of CBS placed the Tide just behind Texas and just ahead of Ole Miss. Michigan was No. 1 in the projection, followed by Ohio State, Florida State and Washington in the top four.
