Where is Auburn baseball ranked after getting swept by No. 1 Texas?
Auburn baseball fell back to earth a little bit this past weekend after sweeping then-No. 3 LSU in its previous series.
The Tigers went on the road to face Texas, losing all three games and falling back to .500 in Southeastern Conference play. Texas is the No. 1 team in the country, so there are definitely worse teams to get swept by.
If anything, it makes the sweep over LSU feel even bigger, allowing Auburn to get swept by quality opponent on the road without falling too far in the SEC standings.
Auburn now sits 27-13 overall and 9-9 in conference play, putting the Tigers near the middle of the pack in the SEC. They face 6-12 Mississippi State at home in their next series, but still have to travel for road series against Tennessee and Ole Miss in the final month of the season.
Getting swept by Texas caused Auburn to drop in the rankings, but the Tigers are still a consensus top 15 team going into the last four series of the season.
Here’s where Auburn stands in the polls:
- D1 Baseball: No. 11
- Baseball America: No. 12
- USA Today Coaches Poll: No. 11
- Perfect Game: No. 12
- NCBWA: No. 11
Before facing Mississippi State this weekend, Auburn’s next game is a midweek rematch with Georgia Tech. The Tigers beat the Yellow Jackets 9-8 in Atlanta on April 8. Georgia Tech is ranked in four of the five polls, with its highest ranking coming in the Perfect Game poll at No. 21.
Auburn goes into the week ranked fourth in the RPI and currently has the top-ranked strength of schedule in the country. Tennessee, Auburn’s next SEC opponent after Mississippi State, is a consensus top 10 team this week.
Five SEC teams are ranked in the top 10 by all five polls this week (Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia) and Auburn has either played or will play four of those five teams.
