Where does Auburn rank in early top-25 polls for 2023-24 basketball season?
The curtains closed and the confetti rained on the 2022-23 college basketball season late Monday night.
UConn claimed its fifth national championship since 1999, taking down San Diego State in Houston to put an exclamation mark on a dominant run through March Madness for Dan Hurley’s Huskies. As UConn basks in the glory of its One Shining Moment, other teams across the country are already turning the page to next season.

Where Auburn’s 2023-24 roster stands after transfers of Yohan Traore and Chance Westry
Scarbinsky: One March Madness, the last net will come down with us
For Auburn and Bruce Pearl, that began in earnest a couple weeks ago, when the veteran coach was out recruiting within hours of his team’s second-round loss to Houston in Birmingham capped a 21-13 season. The Tigers have an intriguing offseason ahead of them, as Pearl looks to reshape a roster that has already seen a considerable amount of movement: Zep Jasper’s eligibility is exhausted, freshman Yohan Traore and Chance Westry both entered the transfer portal, and on Sunday evening starting point guard Wendell Green Jr. opted to turn pro after his All-SEC junior season. All that, and seniors Allen Flanigan, Jaylin Williams and Stretch Akingbola — each of whom have a COVID year of eligibility at their disposal — have yet to make their plans known.
Reshaping the roster and addressing needs to get back Auburn up to the high standard Pearl has come to expect on the Plains is going to take some time this offseason, but with the 2022-23 season in the books, it’s never too soon to look ahead to next year. As is custom, most major outlets released their way-too-early top-25 rankings for the 2023-24 season within hours of the national championship game’s final buzzer.
So, where did Auburn find itself in those rankings? Here’s a rundown:
— The Athletic has Auburn ranked 21st heading into next season.
— The Sporting News has Pearl’s team ranked 24th.
— CBS Sports has Auburn ranked 22nd in its early rankings.
— ESPN has Auburn outside the top-25 but in a group of teams “next in line.”
— 247Sports also has Auburn just outside its top-25 but in a “more to watch” category.
— Sports Illustrated does not have Auburn in its early rankings. Five SEC teams made that top-25: Kentucky, Alabama, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Tennessee.
— Fox Sports did not have Auburn in its rankings, which included four SEC teams: Kentucky, Alabama, Texas A&M and Arkansas.
— USA Today also did not include Auburn in its top-25, which had four SEC teams mentioned: Kentucky, Alabama, Texas A&M and Arkansas.
