College freshman throughout the Mobile metro stayed close to home in 2023. According to data from the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE), more than 60% of the region’s graduating seniors picked a school located less than an hour from home.

Overall, the metro saw an increase of 838 total college enrollments in 2023, or just under 5%.
