Where do Alabama, Auburn assistant coaches rank among highest-paid in SEC, FBS?
Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack is the seventh-highest paid assistant coach in the SEC and 19th highest-paid in the country, according to USA Today’s annual database published this week.
Wommack is set to earn $1.55 million in his first season with the Crimson Tide, whom he joined after a three-year stint as head coach at South Alabama. The 37-year-old Wommack nearly doubled his salary in leaving Mobile from Tuscaloosa.
LSU’s defensive coordinator Blake Baker leads all assistant coaches in the SEC and nationally with a salary of $2.5 million per year. Ole Miss defensive coordinator Pete Golding — formerly of Alabama — is fourth nationally and second in the SEC at $2.15 million.
Alabama offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan ranks 35th nationally with a salary of $1.35 million. Other SEC assistant coaches ahead of Wommack on the list are Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann ($2.03 million), Texas defensive coordinator Peter Kwiatkowski ($1.8 million), Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White ($1.75 million), Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. ($1.65 million) and Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein ($1.6 million).

Auburn’s highest-paid assistant is defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, who earned $1.2 million (46th nationally). Offensive coordinator Derrick Nix is well down the list at $800,000, which is 127th nationally.
USA Today also released a list of the highest-paid strength & conditioning coaches in the country, with Alabama director of sports performance David Ballou ranking second behind only Oklahoma State’s Rob Glass. Ballou is set to earn $950,000 this year, Glass $1.1 million.
Auburn strength coach Dominic Studzinski — who, ironically, is Wommack’s brother-in-law — ranks 27th in the country at $475,000 per year.
