Where are Alabama’s players as NFL training camps open?

With the New York Jets set to become the first NFL team to open training camp on Wednesday, 83 former Alabama players are on league rosters.

That’s enough to fill a regular-season NFL roster and a full practice squad and still need to cut 14 players, although the all-Alabama team wouldn’t have a kicker or a long snapper.

Alabama has a balanced lineup in the NFL – 41 offensive players, 41 defensive players and one specialist.

The Alabama players include 19 defensive backs, 16 offensive linemen, 13 defensive linemen, 10 wide receivers, nine linebackers, seven running backs, four quarterbacks, four tight ends and one punter.

Within those broad position groups are 11 defensive tackles and 10 cornerbacks.

The Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles have six Alabama alumni apiece on their rosters. Six teams do not have a former Crimson Tide player on their rosters.

This summer’s training camps will be the first for 16 of the Alabama alumni. Alabama became the first college football program to have 70 of its alumni play in NFL regular-season games in the same year in 2022, when more former Crimson Tide standouts played in the NFL than in the previous season for the sixth straight year.
