Where Alabama’s wealthiest residents live and why: How your county ranks
Shelby County remains the wealthiest area in Alabama for another year and has been one of the wealthiest counties in the state since 1971, according to a Culverhouse College of Business report.
SmartAsset, a financial technology company, released its annual study on the Wealthiest Counties in the United States. The rankings can give residents an inside look into where resources and investments may be concentrated within the state including quality housing, businesses opportunities and infrastructure development. “The municipalities throughout Shelby County utilize a lot of their resources to help make sure that folks who live in Shelby County have a positive quality of life, and that’s things like parks, and things like schools, great companies citizens can seek employment at…The final thing would just be the collaborative spirit and that goes back to everybody wanting to work together,” Kirk Mancer, president and CEO of the Shelby County Chamber, said.
In Alabama, Shelby County and Madison County ranked the same as previous years while Jefferson County rose in the ranks.
Across the country, Teton County, Wyoming ranks at number one for the wealthiest county in America with a median income of $108,279 and a median home value of $2,242,021.
Within the southeastern region, Williamson County ranks first in Tennessee and No. 17 in the nation with a $125,943 median income and a $877,198 median home value.
Monroe County ranks first in Florida and No. 21 in the nation with a $80,111 median income and a $1,022,934 median home value.
Forsyth County ranks first in Georgia and No. 40 in the nation with a $131,660 median income and a $624,273 median home value.
SmartAsset says it ranks counties by comparing investment income, property value and median income across all U.S. counties to see what areas are accumulating the most wealth. The investment index for each county was calculated by evenly weighing ordinary dividends, qualified dividends and net capital gains.
