Where Alabama ranks in coaches, AP media top 25 polls after ugly USF win

Alabama football played poorly most of the way against South Florida on Saturday. The Crimson Tide scored most of its points late in the fourth quarter, escaping with a 42-16 victory, and it didn’t hurt UA in the coaches or Associated Press media top 25 ranking polls.

The latest edition of the coaches poll, released Sunday, had the Crimson Tide holding steady at No. 4. Georgia remained the top team in the poll. It was a similar story later in the day, when the AP poll updated, also keeping UA in fourth.

Ohio State remained in second place on the coaches poll, with Texas in third, though they flipped positions in the AP poll. Ole Miss and Oregon continued to sit in fifth and sixth respectively in that poll.

In the AP poll, Missouri is sixth and Tennessee seventh. It’s the first time in the history of the poll that six of the seven top spots have been occupied by a single conference.

In other SEC news, Tennessee moved into the coaches top 10 at No. 9 after beating NC State. Missouri moved up two spots to No. 8.

Notre Dame took a huge tumble after an upset loss to Northern Illinois in South Bend. The Fighting Irish had a potential game-winning field goal blocked in the closing seconds, causing them to fall 12 spots to No. 19 in the coaches poll, and 13 positions to No. 18 on the AP’s.

Michigan also took a significant dive. Texas blew out the Wolverines in Ann Arbor during one of Saturday’s early games, and UM fell seven spots to No. 16, No. 17 according to the meida.

Iowa State, Nebraska and Memphis all climbed into the coaches poll top 25 rankings this week. Kansas, Iowa and NC State all fell out.

Alabama’s next opponent, Wisconsin, received votes in both polls, but did not make the top 25 in either. The Badgers beat South Dakota on Saturday.
