Where Alabama football was ranked in 2024 preseason coaches poll top 25
At least one thing has stayed the same for Alabama football since Nick Saban’s retirement. College football coaches still think the Crimson Tide will be pretty good.
The preseason US LBM Coaches Poll top 25 was released on Monday. Alabama was ranked No. 5 in the initial rankings, actually its lowest preseason ranking since 2009.
Four teams are ranked ahead of the Crimson Tide, including two from the SEC. Kirby Smart’s Georgia landed at No. 1 overall, and Steve Sarkisian’s Texas sits at No. 4.
Ohio State is ranked No. 2, with Oregon third. Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss team sits one spot behind Alabama, in sixth place.
The poll lists 55 coaches as voters for the 2024 season. DeBoer is among them.
Alabama did not receive a first-place vote in the preseason poll. Georgia took 46, Ohio State earned seven, with Texas and Michigan garnering one each.
The Wolverines, national champions for the 2023 season after beating Alabama in the Rose Bowl semifinal, are ranked No. 8 to start the campaign. Michigan lost head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers this offseason, promoting Sherrone Moore to the role.
After Ole Miss, the next-highest ranked SEC team is Missouri, which landed at No. 11. LSU sits twelfth.
Tennessee was ranked No. 15, with Oklahoma one spot behind the Volunteers in its first season in the SEC. Texas A&M also made the cut in its first year under new head coach Mike Elko, at No. 20.
Alabama began preseason camp Wednesday in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide is set to return to the practice field on Tuesday.
DeBoer’s first season in charge will begin on Aug. 31, when Western Kentucky travels to Tuscaloosa to open the campaign.
The Associated Press preseason media poll will be released Aug. 12.
