When will Darius Miles’ capital murder trial be? Here’s what’s next for ex-Alabama player
As ex-Alabama basketball player Darius Miles still awaits a potential trial, the next court date has been scheduled.
A status conference has been set for July 11, according to court documents released this week. No trial date has been set yet for Miles, but the latest court date indicates any potential trial won’t begin before mid-July.
Miles has been in jail without bond since Jan. 15, 2023, when he was charged with capital murder after the shooting death of Jamea Harris. Miles was removed from the Alabama men’s basketball team that day. A grand jury later indicted him on the capital murder charge.
The other man charged in his capital murder case, Michael Davis, was found guilty of capital murder in early May by a jury. Davis was convicted of shooting into the Jeep that carried Harris near the Strip in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 15, 2023. Davis’ attorney, John Robbins, did not successfully argue self-defense.
“We believe this is partial justice for Jamea,” said Paula Whitley, the Tuscaloosa County chief assistant district attorney, on May 9. “It’s not over.”
Miles was the owner of the gun. Mary Turner, Miles’ attorney, has previously stated in court that Miles provided the gun to Davis for protection.

Unless they hatch a plea deal, Miles will go on trial in the same courthouse with the same judge, but, with an all new jury.
Life without parole is the only possibility if Miles is found guilty of capital murder. The prosecution decided to take the death penalty off the table for both Davis and Miles.
