When will Alabama get the most rain this weekend?
Rain will be an on-and-off player in Alabama’s weather forecast today and through the weekend, according to forecasters.
It could add up to several inches by early next week. And forecasters have added a risk for severe weather for Sunday and Monday, although severe storms aren’t a sure thing.
The rain will affect much of the state, with north and central Alabama expected to get the most. The National Weather Service is forecasting widespread amounts of 2-3 inches across north and north-central Alabama through Tuesday morning, with some areas possibly getting up to 4 inches.
South Alabama is forecast to between a half-inch to an inch of rain.
The rain will be on and off through the weekend. However, the weather service expects it to be the most widespread from Saturday night through Monday morning.
There will also be a chance for a few storms on Sunday and Monday.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather for Sunday for a sliver of southwest Alabama and a Level 1 risk for a bigger chunk of the state.
Here’s the severe weather outlook for Sunday:
A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible. A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
The SPC has also added a severe weather risk for southeast Alabama for Monday:
The National Weather Service thinks that the threat for severe storms will be watched closely, but as of Friday morning forecasters were uncertain of the potential for widespread storms and said the threat was on the low side — at this point.
Drier and cooler weather is the forecast starting on Tuesday.
