When does the time change? When is start of daylight saving 2024 and âspring forward?â
We’re done with the holiday whirl of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Now, we just settle in for the cold, dark days of winter. But the light – literally – is at the end of the tunnel.
The start of daylight saving time 2024 is about two months away. We will “spring forward” one hour overnight on Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m., shifting more daylight from the morning to the evening. The time change occurs a little more than a week before spring’s official arrival on March 19 at 10:06 p.m. CT.

DST begins each year on the second Sunday in March and ends the first Sunday in November – or Nov. 3 this year. It’s not observed everywhere, however. Parts of Arizona, Hawaii and some U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands do not observe DST.
While proponents point to energy savings, the tradition of moving the clocks around is generally unpopular.
In 2021, Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill that would put Alabama on DST year-round, becoming one of 19 states enacting legislation to do away with the time change. The problem is doing that will require Congressional action and, so far, that’s failed to receive any sustained traction in Washington.
