When do Social Security payments go out in June? Full 2025 payment schedule

June is another month with a payment schedule change for some Social Security recipients.

Recipients of Supplemental Security Insurance typically receive their payments on the first of each month. That schedule changes, however, when the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. In June, the first of the month is on a Sunday, so SSI recipients received their payments on May 30, meaning two checks arrived in May and none in June.

SSI payments will be on the first in July and August and then again on Aug. 29 due to Labor Day falling on Monday, Sept. 1. The SSI schedule for the remainder of the year will be:

  • Oct. 1
  • Oct. 31 (November’s payment as Nov. 1 falls on a Saturday)
  • Dec. 1
  • Dec. 31 (January 2026’s payment as Jan. 1, 2026 is a holiday)

SSI provides funds for seniors with very limited income and people with disabilities. The average SSI payment is $714 per month.

Social Security payments

According to the Social Security Administration, some 69 million people receive benefits each month, totaling around $1.6 trillion annually.

The average benefit varies:

  • Retired workers and dependents – $1,975 average monthly benefit
  • Disabled workers and dependents – $1,581 average monthly benefits
  • Survivors – $1,546 average monthly benefits

Nearly 90% of people age 65 and older receive Social Security benefits, the agency said.

Social Security payments are made based on the recipient’s date of birth.

People with birth dates from the 1st and 10th of the month are paid on the second Wednesday of the month; 11th-20th are paid on third Wednesday; and people born between the 21st and 31st of the month receive their benefits on the fourth Wednesday of the month. In June, that makes payments on the 11th, 18th and 25th.

People who received Social Security before May 1997 or those who receive both Social Security and SSI, Social Security is paid on the third and SSI on the first.
