Monday, we will honor the birthday and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and the injustices he fought for freedom and equality.

While the majority of us will take MLK Day off to observe the holiday, different businesses and entities may have adjusted hours.

With MLK Day being on a Monday, the biggest question is who is closed and who will remain open? Here is what we know so far.

MLK Day is considered a federal holiday, so not only will schools and libraries be closed, most federal and state offices will be closed.

All federal employees are paid even if they receive the day off. Many private-sector employees will also receive paid time off or special holiday pay .

Because the post office is considered a federal entity, the United States Postal Service will not be open and operating on Monday.

Mail is also not expected to be delivered on the holiday.

Most major banks will be observing MLK Day and will remain closed for the day.

Those who bank with a local credit union, it will most likely observe the holiday, however, it doesn’t hurt to reach out and be sure if necessary.

Most major retailers will be open for Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year. However, hours can vary between each store.
