What you missed if you missed the Huntsville Lede
Have you read the Lede lately?
Our daily dive into the news of the day, curated by our team of reporters, editors and producers has grown quite robust since it started in 2022. Especially since we ended print newspaper publication, every day we focus on giving you 60-80 pages of great news (including crime, business, politics, etc.) content from local reporters from the Lede, AL.com (including sports) and selected stories from the Associated Press, Alabama Daily News, Alabama Reflector, the Conversation, and other sources around the nation and the world.
Not to mention – although I’m going to – a huge section of obits, comics, puzzles, and a strong selection of commentary by our local Pulitzer Prize winners and others worth reading.
We have some of the best journalists in the country backing our daily efforts, and our team of Alabama-based journalists is getting bigger all the time. You wanted more news? You got it.
I encourage you to check out the Huntsville Lede and subscribe.
In the meantime, here are a few of the stories we did in the past week in Huntsville:
The Lede’s Scott Turner took a look at how Madison County is outgrowing the number of judges sitting to hear court cases, in a story that appeared May 27. Although the Alabama Legislature recently assigned new circuit and district judgeships for the 23rd Judicial Circuit – following the state previously moving one judgeship from Jefferson County to Madison – it still might not be enough. Presiding Judge Claude Hundley said the 23rd Circuit needs at least one more circuit judge, and District Attorney Tim Gann is calling for more prosecutors for the higher caseload.
In the latest in our ongoing Sunday Q&A series, Turner also had a wide-ranging conversation with Madison County Commissioner Violet Edwards about everything from veterans and seniors to the homeless and workforce development. “Instead of criticizing anybody and deciding that someone else wasn’t doing something that was important to me, I just decided to step out there and do it for myself, and do it for my kids, and do it for my community and bring those ideas to the people,” she said. It’s a great conversation.
This week in the Lede, look for stories about Huntsville’s highest paying jobs, and how the growing city fares in the latest Milken Rankings – which may surprise you.
You’ll probably notice that with the Lede being a subscription product, even when you look at our stories posted on AL.com, there’s a reminder that to get the Lede daily, you will need to subscribe. And when you do, you’ll be able to read the Lede on your desktop, tablet or phone. You can even download apps for your phone, whether you use Apple, or Android.
BTW – every since issue of the Lede has a page designed to tell you how to navigate the Lede. It even has a cool YouTube video.
The Lede is a work in progress, and we’re making it better every day. We don’t just want you to subscribe – which we do – we also want to hear from you. Suggestions? Constructive criticism? Stories you’d like to see? Questions about your community? Something for us to look into that will make your life better? Send me a note at [email protected].
Meanwhile, thanks for reading.
