Vanderbilt can start 2-0 for a second straight season under coach Clark Lea when it faces Alabama A&M on Saturday, Sept. 2. The game will be live streamed on ESPN+ and Sling Orange.

The Commodores need a win before hitting the road for two straight games. Alabama A&M visits Vanderbilt for the first time since 2017. Vanderbilt routed the Bulldogs 42-0. Vanderbilt overcame a long weather delay before kickoff and then needed a late interception to hold off Hawaii 35-28 for a win in the opener. Opening the season against a team from the Southeastern Conference won’t be easy for a program that went 4-7 last season.

Vanderbilt will get a much-needed chance to work on its run game after managing only 40 yards on 25 rushes in the opener. That included 21 yards on a touchdown run by Patrick Smith to cap the Commodores’ opening drive. The Commodores also gave up three sacks. Alabama A&M lost four defensive linemen from a team that went 4-7 in 2022.
