What tax bracket am I in for 2023?
Record-high inflation prompted the Internal Revenue Service to make the largest inflation adjustment for individual taxes in decades – 7.1% for tax year 2023.
Some tax figures are adjusted on an early basis to prevent what’s called “bracket creep.” According to the nonprofit Tax Foundation, “bracket creep” can take place when people are pushed into higher income brackets or have reduced credits and deductions due to inflation, as opposed to an increase in real income. That adjustment means an adjustment of income limits for 2023 taxpayers for returns they file in 2024.
The seven federal income tax rates for 2023 remain 10 percent, 12 percent, 22 percent, 24 percent, 32 percent, 35 percent and 37 percent. The top marginal income tax rate of 37 percent is for single filers with a taxable income of $539,900 or above and married couples filing jointly at or above $693,750.
