What positions will Auburn football target during the spring transfer portal window?

With spring practice now in the rear view for Auburn football, the next order of business is the spring transfer portal window.

The Tigers added a number of potential contributors during the winter window, but they may not be done adding to the roster before the 2025 season begins.

Head coach Hugh Freeze was asked where Auburn will look to add players in the upcoming portal window, and he highlighted a few groups on defense including along the defensive line and linebacker. He also said he’d “never turn down a great cover guy either.”

Freeze was also asked if Auburn would consider adding another quarterback to reach four scholarship players at that position, but he mentioned how the future of revenue sharing could change how they build the roster, specifically at that spot.

“You’re going to have to model it after an NFL roster, I think eventually. And that lends to, do we go with three and use the extra on a big somewhere, whether it be O-line or D-line,” Freeze said. “We haven’t made that final determination yet, and some of it will probably depend on what’s available.”

He also pointed out that it would likely be a hard sell to any quarterback in the portal, joining a team that already added three new signal callers this offseason. Jackson Arnold and Deuce Knight were the only two on scholarship that practiced this spring, but Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels will join the team this summer.

The transfer portal officially opens for the spring on April 16 and closes on April 25.
