What Nate Oats said about Aden Holloway facing Auburn, the Alabama guard’s former team

The game between Alabama men’s basketball and Auburn men’s basketball is a colossal matchup for the state, but it’s even bigger for guard Aden Holloway.

He played his freshman season at Auburn in 2023-24. Then he transferred to Alabama ahead of the 2024-25 season.

It makes for a unique perspective for Holloway in the matchup. Alabama coach Nate Oats discussed how Holloway has prepared for the game.

“He obviously is familiar with their system, their team,” Oats said. “He had some really good games here. He’s a year older here. He’s gotten comfortable in our system. He’s playing well in it. Will be a big game for him. But he’s pretty relaxed. He doesn’t turn the ball over much. I don’t anticipate him doing anything crazy. He will be ready to play. He’s been ready to play most of our games all year.”

This season, Holloway has been a valuable player off the bench. He is averaging 21.7 minutes per game, averaging 11.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2 assists, 0.5 steals and 1 turnover per game. He has improved his shooting percentage from 31.8% a year ago to 48.5% with Alabama.

The Crimson Tide and are set to play in the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 regular-season game in SEC history. Auburn, ranked No. 1 in the AP top 25 and No. 2 in the coaches poll, will face Alabama, ranked No. 2 in the AP top 25 and No. 1 in the coaches poll, on Saturday (3 p.m., ESPN) at Coleman Coliseum.
