What Kalen DeBoer said about Ryan Williams, Noah Carter and QB Reese

When Kalen DeBoer got to Tuscaloosa as Alabama football’s new head coach, one of the first orders of business was to settle the Tide’s recruiting down before the February signing day. He pull it off, convincing five-star Saraland wide receiver Ryan Williams to stick to his commitment and sign with UA.

On Tuesday, DeBoer was asked what Williams brings to the table during a radio appearance on Tide 100.9 in Tuscaloosa. He had high praise for the young wideout.

“He’s one of the most, just dynamic guys I’ve ever seen at receiver,” DeBoer said. “Just getting the ball in his hands, he can do it on short throws and quicker-type routes and he can do it down the field. He’s good in every way.”

Williams was named Mr. Football twice throughout his career. He was listed as a five-star prospect by every major recruiting service.

Auburn made a late push to try and land Williams after Nick Saban retired, but the youngster recommitted to the Crimson Tide and eventually signed his NLI.

“I just was so attracted to him, not just as a football player but also as a person,” DeBoer said. “When you talk to him and he retireates what he hears, it’s amazing to me how much he processes and can articulate back to you what was all fed. I’m just super excited to coach him up. I feel like he’s a guy who’s just setting this growth mindset and just gonna take it all in every minute possible.”

DeBoer was also asked about Noah Carter, who joins the Crimson Tide as an edge-rusher. Carter had originally signed with Washington before DeBoer’s departure, and followed his coach to Tuscaloosa.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Carter was a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite.

“Dynamic in different ways,” DeBoer said .”I think he can play on the line of scrimmage. I think he can actually play off the line of scrimmage in different ways in our defense. Just the constant pressure that he can put on a pass rush. He’ll grow into his frame, which I think is a great frame. You watch his highlight film and the way he’s comfortable in space, just a very, very confidence football player.”

Alabama’s signing day class also included linebacker QB Reese from Ramsey. Reese is a three-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite.

He’s listed at six feet tall, 210 pounds on the Tide’s online roster.

“Physically I think has a huge, huge upside,” DeBoer said. “Love him and his family, just getting to know them…Rapidly grew into a thing where, man, we just need to get him into our football program and see what he can do from there.”
