What Kalen DeBoer, Kane Wommack thought of targeting call on Justin Jefferson

Alabama football will be without Justin Jefferson for the first half of the Wisconsin game because of a late targeting call on the linebacker against USF.

Jefferson was ejected from the game in the second half after the officials ruled one of his hits to be targeting.

“It’s always disappointing when you have a dynamic player that is not available for one half of the game,” Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said. “We looked at the play, I looked at it from about every angle I could, I think we’ve just got to tell the young man to keep playing. It is what it is. We’ll deal with it and get ourselves ready for him in the second half.”

Jefferson has been in the rotation at linebacker and has made plays. This season, he has 12 tackles and a sack already.

Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer said UA is waiting to get the exact feedback, but he noted the helmets hit each other.

“There’s not much you can do when you’re out there as a coach in that moment,” DeBoer said. “Anything I say isn’t going to matter when they’re going through their decision.”

No. 4 Alabama (2-0) will face Wisconsin (2-0) on Saturday (11 a.m. CT, FOX) at Camp Randall Stadium.
