What is this mysterious creature caught on video at a south Alabama beach?

A mysterious creature is leaving many Facebook commenters perplexed as they attempt to figure out what the blob-like creature may be while at the same time having fun with some hilarious remarks.

ABC 33/40 Meteorologist James Spann posted a video he received on Facebook featuring a strange black creature spotted at Orange Beach.

The individual who provided the video, Katie Mitchell, stated she saw it at the beach but, “has no idea what it is.”

Mitchell is not alone as thousands of comments under Spann’s post include people dropping their own theories regarding the identity of the creature.

Many have commented that the strange creature is a sea cucumber, but those ideas were shut down by other commenters. Others, however, have chimed in with more comedic suggestions.

A multitude of comments include people questioning if the creature is not even of this world as it could be from the Upside Down, in reference to the tv show Stranger Things.

One commenter alluded to the black specimen being a piece of the symbiote Venom from Marvel and said that “Tom Hardy will be by later to pick it up.”

Many more comments stated the creature was “The Blob” from the 1970s comedy horror film franchise.

But for the commenters that said the being was a sea hare or sea slug they were correct.

Brian Jones with the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, told AL.com that the creature appeared to be a Black Sea Hare or sooty sea hare.

According to The Cephalopod Page, the sea hare is a marine mollusk and scientists refer to the animal as Alypsia morio.

Unlike other types of slugs or snails the sea hare has evolved to lose its shell over time. While harmless, the creature also has an ominous nickname as it is called “The Undertaker.”

So, beachgoers do not fret because “The Undertaker” is not from the Upside Down but is merely a sea slug without a shell.
