What is Johni Broome’s status for the Final Four? Bruce Pearl gives an update

Sunday night was a game to remember for Johni Broome and Auburn men’s basketball.

The Tigers punched their ticket to the Final Four with a win over Michigan State and did so after a dramatic sequence from All-American forward Johni Broome.

He was forced to leave the game in the second half after injuring his right arm and left leg, but returned to the game later in the half and knocked down a big 3-pointer.

Despite returning, Broome wasn’t 100% and was held out of practice early in the week. However, Broome told reporters Thursday afternoon that he expects to be at full strength for Auburn’s Final Four game against Florida.

“I told them yesterday I was good,” Broome said. “They sat me out for precaution, but on Saturday I’ll be 100%.”

Head coach Bruce Pearl responded to Broome’s comments during his news conference, saying he’s “glad he feels that way,” and that Thursday was the first day Broome moved in practice since the injury.

Pearl didn’t directly say what Broome’s status is, but said that they will “ride him hard” against Florida, indicating that he is expected to play.

Auburn and Florida’s Final Four matchup is set for 5:09 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised on CBS.
