What Donald Trump thinks of Kalen DeBoer, Nick Saban
Plenty of pundits and analysts discuss Alabama football year round. But it’s not every day the president of the United States offers up his take.
President Donald Trump did Thursday night at Coleman Coliseum, during a speech at a University of Alabama commencement event. Nick Saban introduced him.
“As a student at Alabama, you will always remember where you were when your head coach, Nick Saban, retired,” Trump said. “Remember that? He’s done such a fantastic job. That’s true with Nick. What a great coach. Let’s bring him back. No. You have a good coach right now, though. You have a good coach right now.”
That would be Kalen DeBoer, who led the Crimson Tide this past season to a victory over Georgia at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Trump also attended part of that game and mentioned the victory during his speech Thursday.
“Everywhere you look you can see the fierce spirit of this school, but no where more clearly than in your world-class athletics,” Trump said. “There’s nothing like it. Probably there’s no school like it.”
Trump took a moment to highlight the graduating football players, too.
“There’s something truly special about the players, coaches and the fans that pack the stands at Bryant-Denny Stadium and proudly sing Dixieland Delight,” Trump said. “We like that. Alabama has changed college football forever and inscribed into the history books the names of Bear Bryant, Joe Namath, four Heisman Trophy winners and of course, the great Nick Saban. This place is truly where legends are made.
