After the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Miami Dolphins 31-17 on Sunday night, opposing quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa shared a moment on the field as players and coaches shook hands before heading for the locker rooms.

What did the former Alabama teammates say to each other?

NFL Films captured the brief exchange, which went like this:

Hurts: “Keep going, brother.”

Tagovailoa: “Hey, keep going, brother.”

Hurts: “You’re having a hell of a year, man.”

Tagovailoa: “Thank you. Likewise, brother.”

Hurts: “Happy for you, yes sir.”

Tagovailoa: “Hey, stay healthy, man.”

Hurts: “You, too. Keep going.”

Tagovailoa: “Thank you, brother. Appreciate you.”

On Sunday night, Hurts completed 23-of-31 passes for 279 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and ran for 21 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries. After Miami turned a tipped pass into a pick-six to tie the game at 17-17 in the second half, Hurts produced back-to-back touchdown drives. Hurts converted two fourth-down quarterback sneaks in Philadelphia territory on the final TD drive.

Tagovailoa completed 23-of-32 passes for 216 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He a lost a touchdown pass to an offensive-holding penalty in the first quarter. Tagovailoa leads the NFL with 2,092 passing yards and 15 touchdown passes.

Hurts and Tagovailoa were teammates at Alabama in 2017 and 2018. Tagovailoa backed up Hurts in 2017, and Hurts backed up Tagovailoa in 2018.

Sunday night was their first meeting during an NFL game and was the 41st regular-season start for each quarterback.

At 6-1, the Eagles play the Washington Commanders at noon CDT Sunday at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. On Oct. 1, Philadelphia defeated Washington 34-31 in overtime.

At 5-2, the Dolphins play the New England Patriots at noon Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Another former Tagovailoa teammate will be at quarterback for the Patriots. Mac Jones backed up Tagovailoa in the 2019 season.
