Road conditions in the central part of the state are deteriorating in many places after snow and ice hit the state overnight.

Jim Stefkovich, Meteorologist with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, said temperatures as far north as I-20 are still forecast to get above freezing between 9 a.m.-noon and potentially for some areas north of I-20 from 12 pm – 6 pm. Areas north of I-20 may not, however, which will lead to sleet and freezing rain continuing into the afternoon.
Stefkovich said the bulk of the precipitation will end by 6 p.m. in the western sections and the northern half of the state by 1 a.m. Precipitation will end across the southern half by 5 a.m. Saturday.
Total ice amounts will generally be 0.1 inch or less, but some locations could see 0.1 – 0.3 inch, especially east of I-65.
