What are Birmingham area state lawmakers focused on in 2023?

As Alabama’s 2023 legislative session begins representatives from the Birmingham area have prefiled bills covering topics ranging from prohibiting street racing in Jefferson County to continued education for those with intellectual disabilities, to banning certain voting machines.

Out of all the legislators the Lede reached out to, only three – Reps. Susan DuBose and Russell Bedsole and Sen. Merika Coleman – responded to requests for comment.

Mooney has represented District 43, which includes parts of Hoover, Meadowbrook, and Indian Springs Village, since 2014 and prior to that was an assistant broker at Southeast Commercial Partners LLC as the Lede previously reported.
