Westminster cruises past DAR, wins fifth straight game
Westminster Christian raced to a 55-point halftime lead and cruised to a 69-14 win over DAR.
The Wildcats (5-1, 4-1) have won five straight since dropping their opener to Lee-Huntsville and the 69 points pushed the scoring average to 52 points a game. The win keeps Westminster atop Class 4A, Region 8.
Quarterback Brandon Musch hit two milestones in the record book, only playing the first quarter. He was 13-of-14 passing for 180 yards and three touchdowns, adding a carry for three yards. The 183 total yards put him at 12,162 yards for his career while his three touchdowns put him in third place in AHSAA history, passing Bo Nix with 164.
Westminster led 35-0 lead in the first quarter, getting touchdown passes from Musch to Adam Hartman, Henry Claunch and Kyle Everleth. The Wildcats also got touchdown runs from TJ Carter and Claunch, who added to the scoring in the second quarter with a 38-yard run for 42-0 lead.
Charlie Billings scored from 26 yards out and Isaiah Shingleton closed out the first half scoring with a 50 yard interception return to give Westminster a 55-0 lead at the half.
Few Westminster starters played in the second half. Houston Scott had two touchdown passes, one to Wilson Korokty and the other to RJ Bendolph, to close out the Wildcats scoring.
DAR (0-7, 0-4) scored two touchdowns in the second half with a 15-yard pass from Gage Davis to Alex Rice and a 3-yard pass from Davis to Landon Black.
Star of the Game: T.J. Carter was the star for Westminster in the first half catching six passes for 114 yards and rushing for one touchdown. Carter also returned three punts for 134 yards.
Stat sheet: Westminster – 409 total yards, Claunch rushed for 65 on only six carries and scored two touchdowns. He also caught one pass for 13 yards and a touchdown. Musch was 13-of-14 for 180 and three touchdowns. Houston Scott was 9-of-12 passing for 97 yards and two touchdowns. R.J. Bendolph caught four passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. Zeke Carwile had an interception from his linebacker position.
DAR – 187 total yards, 54 yards rushing and Davis was 14-of-42 passing for 133 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.
By the Numbers: 9 – Westminster forced DAR to punt nine times on the night. 8 – Westminster had eight different players score touchdowns.
Coachspeak: “I told our guys that the points they put up were a product of our seniors going 4-6 as freshman and we’ve been in DAR’s shoes before and I wanted to remind our guys of that. There were a lot of opportunities for some young guys to play tonight because of that hard work and what we did in the first quarter.
