West Blocton police officer allegedly tipped off suspects to search warrant, bought woman marijuana
A West Blocton police officer has been arrested, accused of misuse of criminal data and buying marijuana while on duty and in a patrol vehicle.
Jerry Douglas Cannon Jr., 36, is charged with misuse of confidential information, a misdemeanor, and use of office for personal gain, a felony.
The arrest was made by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Cannon was booked into the Chilton County Jail Friday and released the following day on $15,000 bond.
Charging documents state that on May 1, Cannon admitted to “showing highly confidential information” from the Digital Detective System Dispatch Center and alerted suspects that a search warrant was going to be conducted at their residence.
“He showed multiple criminal histories to the general public,’’ records state.
The complaint also alleges that Cannon was in a dating relationship with a woman and told her that he would buy her marijuana while on duty in the patrol vehicle and “take the dope back to her house in West Blocton.”
Records state that alleged crime happened on Feb. 1.
A court date has not yet been announced.
