West Birmingham shooting victim with life-threatening injuries drives himself 5 miles to fire station
A gunshot victim in west Birmingham with life-threatening injuries Thursday night drove himself nearly five miles to an Ensley fire station before being taken to UAB Hospital, police said.
West Precinct officers received a call of a person shot in the 3900 block of Carver Avenue around 7 p.m., said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Officers were later updated that the victim attempted to drive himself to Princeton Hospital.
Officers went to the hospital, where they learned the victim — only identified as an adult male in his mid 20s — arrived at Fire Station 20 at 4825 Avenue W in Ensley, which is about four to five miles from Carver Avenue, said Fitzgerald.
The victim was able to speak to officers for a “brief minute,” Fitzgerald said, and officers learned that the victim was shot in the 3900 block of Carver Avenue.
“The victim believes he was targeted. He does not believe that he was [an] innocent or random victim,” Fitzgerald said. He believes whoever was after him was targeting him.”
No arrests have been made in the case as of 8 p.m. Thursday.
A crime scene was located at Carver Avenue, where officers observed several shell casings in the road, Fitzgerald said.
Birmingham Fire Rescue Service personnel took the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police asked anyone near the shooting to call the department or CrimeStoppers with information.
