West Alabama high school student found with gun on campus

A west Alabama student was taken into custody Friday after being found with a gun at school.

Gordo High School officials were alerted to a possible threat on campus.

School administrators and the school resource officer launched an immediate investigation, which led to the discovery of the gun.

The student, who has not been identified, was quickly taken into custody.

Additional details surrounding the incident have not yet been released.

Pickens County Sheriff Jordan Powell praised the swift response.

“This type of behavior and the presence of firearms on school property will not be tolerated,” Powell said.

“The safety of the students and staff at all Pickens County Schools remains the top priority,‘’ said Superintendent Shawn McDaniel. “The sheriff’s office and school officials are committed to maintaining a secure learning environment and will continue to take all necessary measures to address threats of any kind.”
