Wednesday baseball: Vincent, Ariton advance to 2A title series
Vincent’s Grayson Guide tossed a one-hitter and the Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the first three innings on the way to beating Lindsay Lane 11-1 on Wednesday and earning a spot in the Class 2A championship series.
After seventh-ranked Lindsay Lane (29-11) scored its run in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly from Alexander Cook, ninth-ranked Vincent (30-5) tied the game 1-all on an error.
Ethan McElrath doubled and scored to give Vincent the lead for good in the second and Casen Fields added an RBI single for a 3-1 lead. A Lindsay Lane error and Zac Carlisle single made it 6-1 and the Yellow Jackets cruised to the victory.
After Trey Perkins singled in the second inning for Lindsay Lane’s only hit, Guide allowed two more baserunners on a walk and hit batsman in the five-inning game shortened because of the 10-run Mercy Rule.
Guide struck out two and walked two while throwing 66 pitches, including 38 strikes.
