Wednesday AHSAA regional softball: 16 more teams qualify for championship tournament
AHSAA regional softball tournaments continued on Wednesday with 16 more teams qualifying for the state championship tournament.
Double-elimination play in Class 5A and Class 1A ended while Class 2A and Class 3A began, finishing on Thursday.
The top two teams in each class from four regionals – South at Gulf Shores Sportsplex, Central at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park, East at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park and North at Florence’s Coffee O’Neal Park – advance to next week’s state championship tournament in Oxford.
The winners bracket champion earns the state tournament No. 1 qualifier while the elimination bracket winner will be the No. 2 qualifier in each class.
Class 5A qualifiers: (South) No. 1 Rehobeth, No. 2 Gulf Shores; (Central) No. 1 Beauregard, No. 2 Marbury; (East) No. 1 Moody, No. 2 Alexandria; (North) No. 1 Jasper, No. 2 Hayden.
Class 1A qualifiers: (South) No. 1 Brantley, No. 2 Leroy; (Central) No. 1 Maplesville, No. 2 Verbena; (East) No. 1 Skyline, No. 2 Spring Garden; (North) No. 1 Hackleburg, No. 2 Waterloo.
Class 2A winners bracket final: (South) Wicksburg vs. G.W. Long; (Central) Thorsby vs. Lamar County; (East) Pleasant Valley vs. Pisgah; (North) Hatton vs. Sumiton Christian.
Class 3A winners bracket final: (South) Excel vs. Opp; (Central) St. James vs. Alabama Christian; (East) Piedmont vs. Plainview; (North) Winfield vs. Colbert Heights.
