Weather forcing changes in Thursday’s AHSAA, AISA championship schedule

Severe weather is impacting both the AHSAA and AISA spring championships today.

A second round of strong to severe thunderstorms continued to pelt parts of Alabama on Thursday, and more storms are anticipated to affect the state late tonight.

The Alabama Independent School Association has moved Game 3 of the Class AAA baseball series between Glenwood and Lee-Scott from today to 1 p.m. Friday at Paterson Field in Montgomery.

The two teams split their doubleheader on Wednesday.

In Huntsville, the AHSAA delayed the start of the state soccer semifinals until 11 a.m. and has moved the games to the turf fields at the Loretta O. Spencer Complex at John Hunt Park.

Gates are scheduled to open at 10 a.m.

The two Class 5A boys’ semifinal matches which were suspended Wednesday night, will resume play first on the new turf fields No. 3 and 4 at the complex at 11 a.m. The Class 6A girls’ semifinal matches will begin on those two fields as soon the 5A boys’ semifinals have concluded.

The remaining games scheduled for today will follow with the 6A boys’ semifinals, followed by the 7A girls’ semifinals, and the 7A boys’ semifinals. Matches will strive to be as close to the original start times as possible.

Friday’s schedule remains unchanged.

The AHSAA state softball tournaments also are being delayed by weather. The North Regional in Florence is delayed until 3 p.m. due to field conditions. The East Regional in Albertville is delayed until noon.

There are six AHSAA state baseball semifinal games scheduled for today. The schedule is unchanged at this point.
