Weather concerns affect Mobile’s Fat Tuesday parade schedule
Concerns about possible severe weather have prompted changes for Mobile’s Mardi Gras parades.
The National Weather Service has warned that much of the state could be hit by severe storms from late Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning. Windy conditions could include hurricane-force gusts and tornadoes.
Information provided by the City of Mobile follows:
The Order of Athena will roll on Route A at 10:30 a.m.
The Knights of Revelry parade, scheduled for 12:30 a.m., may roll early; it will roll as soon as the Athena parade finishes. As planned, the King Felix III Parade and the Comic Cowboys will immediately follow the King Felix III Parade. All are on Route A.
The Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association’s Mammoth Parade, previously scheduled for 2 p.m., will roll at 1 p.m. This parade uses Route B, which starts with a loop west of downtown along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave and Spring Hill Avenue before following a portion of Route A through Downtown.
The last parade of the season, the Order of Myths, was scheduled for 6 p.m. on Route C. It will instead roll at 5 p.m. on a modified Route C: “St. Anthony east to Royal, south on Royal to west on St. Francis, south on Conception to west on Government, south on Claiborne, east on Church, north on Royal, west on St. Anthony.”
Additionally, according to the city, bands have been cancelled for the Order of Myths Parade. The parade will consist of floats only.
