WBRC names Brittany Dionne as newest anchor

WBRC has announced its newest anchor, Brittany Dionne. She’ll make her debut at 9 p.m. on Aug. 21st.

Dionne is native to the Birmingham area and has worked at Gray Television’s WBRC Fox 6 News since 2019. In that time, she worked as a nightside reporter and weekend evening anchor.

Dionne said this has been a decade’s dream in the making. “I embrace the honor of stepping into the role of Weekday Evening Anchor at the news station I grew up watching.”

Dionne is a graduate of Erwin High School and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has previous work experience at ABC, NBC and FOX affiliate stations in Florida and Georgia. While working in the other Southeast markets, she won a Regional Edward R. Murrow award.

WBRC’s News Director Shannon Isbell said “Brittany is passionate about the communities we serve. She is a trusted reporter and anchor already, so it was an easy decision to move her into a higher profile position of leadership. She communicates with command, comfort and clarity even when the story is changing quickly.”

Since working at WBRC, Dionne was nominated for an ABBY in 2021 and Emmy in 2022. Earlier this year, Dionne won the award for ‘Best Anchor’ from the Alabama Broadcaster’s Association. She was also recognized as a 2023 UAB Young Alumni Rising Star award.

Dionne said, “I am fully committed to sharing your stories with the same compassion, courage and fairness that you deserve. Your trust means everything to me, and I am dedicated to making you all proud!”
