Watch SNL’s Kenan Thompson spoof Deion Sanders
It was only a matter of time, and perhaps only the recently-settled Writers Guild of America strike kept it from happening sooner.
Deion Sanders got the Saturday Night Live treatment on the show’s 49th season premiere on Saturday, with Kenan Thompson making an appearance to send up Colorado’s “Coach Prime.” Clad in sunglasses and a white Colorado baseball cap and hoodie with a whistle around his neck, Thompson joined Weekend Update host Colin Jost for a short segment detailing the meteoric rise (and recent humbling) of Sanders and the Buffaloes football program this season.
Among Thompson’s best lines:
“My team has it all: coaching — genius; offense — explosive; defense — trying. It’s a complete package, man.”
“We were up 29-0 at the half [in Friday night’s overtime loss to Stanford]. So I went home and went to sleep. I woke up this morning as shocked as anyone. But, you know, nobody’s perfect. Name one team that’s undefeated.”
“I truly believe that God called me there [to Jackson State]. And he said ‘this is your destiny.’ … And then God called me again and was like ‘my bad.’ And then he showed me the promised land of Colorado.”
