Watch coach attack umpire during Alabama youth baseball game
A video showing a youth baseball coach in Alabama rushing a field to attack an umpire has gone viral.
The youth baseball coach stormed the diamond and took an umpire to the ground after arguing a call during an 11-U game in Calera over the weekend.
The video, which was originally uploaded to Facebook, shows the coach running onto the field and mixing it up with the umpire, who tried to impede his progress.
It was accompanied with the following information: “DC Patriots Baseball Grand Slam Baseball Alabama coach attacks ump for not liking the call he made. Our players had to run for the field. Absolutely unacceptable!”
Other coaches and parents tried break up the fight.
According to the Facebook post, the game took place at a tournament hosted by Grand Slam Baseball Alabama.
The post added that the man involved was the coach of the DC Patriots, a team from nearby Tuscaloosa, though nothing was confirmed and there was no mention of the incident by the league in any Facebook posts.
“It was so crazy! Never seen that in all my years at the ballpark,” said one commenter, who noted that she was a parent of a player at the tourney. “There was a kid on the mound. They did this with children on the field! Absolutely insane.”
Efforts to reach Calera police for comment were not immediately successful Tuesday morning.
