Watch Carrie Underwood sing ‘America the Beautiful’ at Trump’s inauguration
Country Singer Carrie Underwood sang “America the Beautiful” acapella during President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.
“If you know the words, help me out here,” Underwood told the crowd before beginning the song.
Underwood was set to perform with the Armed Forces Chorus. However, after a couple of notes, the music stopped playing. It was unclear what caused the silence.
A crew member signaled to Underwood, who then decided to sing acapella, asking the crowd to join in. Eventually, the crowd in the Capitol Rotunda began singing with her, including outgoing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Underwood applauded the crowd after the song was over.
A native of Oklahoma, Underwood won the fourth season of “American Idol” in 2005 and has gone on to a celebrated country music career. She did not publicly endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States Monday.
