Watch as Suni Lee gets a ‘War Eagle!’ shoutout from the crowd during Paris Olympics
Former Auburn gymnast and current Team USA competitor Suni Lee had just finished up a brilliant routine on the balance beam during the 2024 Paris Olympics’ women’s team final and was waiting to learn her score when she heard a pair of familiar words.
“War Eagle!,” someone from the crowd in Paris yelled out.
In response, Lee finished taking a swig of water, turned to the crowd and offered a some fist pumps, acknowledging the rally cry of her former college program.
Lee competed for the Auburn Tigers in 2022 and 2023, becoming the most decorated gymnast in Auburn history during her 2022 campaign, as she picked up eight All-American honors, a national title, an SEC title and was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Year.
Meanwhile, Lee’s 2023 season was cut short due to a pair of kidney conditions, which led her to moving back home to Minnesota before finally returning to gymnastics earlier this year.
Lee went on to earn a 14.600 during her clutch balance beam performance, which came on the heels of her Olympic teammate Jordan Chiles falling off the apparatus moments before.
Approaching the final rotation of the day, Team USA sits comfortably in first place and has all but locked up its first team gold medal since the 2016 Rio Olympics.
