Watch Alabama commit Caleb Odom make 1-handed TD catch

Alabama 4-star tight end commit Caleb Odom made national highlights Friday night when his Carrolton, Ga., team opened the season against Langston Hughes.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Odom made a one-handed, touchdown reception with 9:50 left in the first quarter to give his team an early lead.

Odom’s team jumped out to a 22-6 first-half lead before Langston Hughes scored 27 unanswered points to lead 33-22 in the third quarter. The defending Class AAAAAA champs held on for a 39-34 victory.

Langston Hughes, from Fairburn, Ga., is ranked No. 14 in the MaxPreps rankings. Carrollton is No. 12. Ohio State commit Air Noland threw two TD passes, including the game-winner with less than a minute left to play.

Odom also had 38-yard reception later in the game to set up another Carrollton score. He committed to Alabama in June, choosing the Crimson Tide over a top five that also included Florida, Miami, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

He was a Maxpreps junior All-American selection last season at Carrollton. He finished the season with 64 catches for 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Odom is the fourth-ranked senior recruit in Georgia, according to On3, behind Florida State DB commit KJ Bolden (Buford), Georgia QB commit Dylan Raiola (Buford) and Florida State QB commit Luke Kromenhoek (Benedictine Military School).

Alabama picked up its 18th commitment in the Class of 2024 on Friday when Gadsden City DB Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. committed. He is Nick Saban’s first legacy commit at Alabama. Kirkpatrick’s father, Dre Sr., played for the Tide from 2009-2011.

The Crimson Tide’s 2024 class is currently ranked in fourth in the nation, according to 247 sports, behind Georgia, Ohio State and Florida.
