In the aftermath of San Francisco 49ers’ 34-31 come-from-behind win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday for the NFC Championship, social media took notice of a brief moment between two former Alabama teammates.

While Brock Purdy and the 49ers were celebrating their 17-point rally, one San Francisco player took it upon himself to confirm a Detroit Lion.

The broadcast caught injured Niner Cameron Latu consoling fellow rookie and former Tide star Brian Branch after the Lions’ loss.

According to social media, the Bama brotherhood is real.

In late August, the 49ers placed Latu on injured reserve after being selected in the third-round of the 2023 NFL draft. During Week 3 of the preseason, Latu suffered a torn meniscus.

Last week, Branch said he’d never felt the love and appreciation from fans the way he does as a rookie with the Detroit Lions.

“It means they believe in me,” Branch said, per WXYT-FM, about the ovation he received during player introductions for the NFC playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “It shows that they respect my game. Yeah, like, I ain’t get that at Bama. For them to do that, it means a lot.”

On Sunday, the 49ers (14-5) scored 17 points in an eight-minute span of the third quarter to tie the NFC championship game and then pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a rematch against Kansas City after losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl four years ago.

The Lions (14-6), meanwhile, failed on two fourth downs in field-goal range. Detroit fell short of reaching the first Super Bowl in franchise history.
