Washington Post journalist, part of prize-winning Roy Moore coverage, faces child porn charges

A member of the Washington Post’s Pulitzer Prize-winning team which documented Roy Moore’s 2017 Senate campaign has been charged with child pornography possession.

Thomas Pham LeGro, 48, was arrested Thursday, according to District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

LeGro was taken into custody following a search of his home.

According to a news release, FBI agents Thursday executed a search warrant at LeGro’s residence and seized several electronic devices.

Investigators allegedly found 11 videos on LeGro’s work laptop that were child sexual abuse material. They also found what appeared to be fractured pieces of a hard drive in the hallway outside the room where LeGro’s work laptop was found.

According to The New York Post, The Washington Post said through a spokesperson that LeGro has been placed on leave.

“The Washington Post understands the severity of these allegations, and the employee has been placed on leave,” a statement read.

LeGro was a member of The Post’s video department and part of a team of reporters that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2017 for coverage of former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore as he ran for a U.S. Senate seat.

Moore filed a lawsuit in 2018 in Etowah County over allegations of sexual misconduct decades earlier that surfaced during his campaign for the U.S. Senate in 2017.

Moore has repeatedly denied the allegations in public statements and court documents. He claimed they were malicious and timed to undermine his candidacy, coming in the final weeks of the campaign for the December 2017 special election, which he lost to Doug Jones.
