Warrior police officer charged with assaulting officer called to check on him

A Warrior police officer is under arrest after a disturbance at his home.

Officers on Thursday were called to the home of coworker Officer Terry Jacob Heaton, 29, to perform a welfare check on him, said Chief Scott Praytor. A family member had made the request for the welfare check.

Once on the scene, authorities said, Heaton got into a struggle with another officer.

He was eventually taken into custody without further incident, Praytor said.

Heaton is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 6:32 p.m. Monday and released at 7:14 p.m. after posting bonds totaling $15,500.

Heaton has been with the Warrior Police Department for two years. He is on administrative leave pending the ongoing investigation.
