Wanted teen arrested in carjacked Audi on I-59/20 in Birmingham after brief chase

A 16-year-old Birmingham shooting suspect was captured Wednesday on Interstate 59/20 after a chase.

The young suspect, authorities said, was wanted on at least one attempted murder charge and was arrested in a vehicle that was stolen in a Homewood carjacking Tuesday night.

The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force was searching for the teen on the Birmingham warrant when they apparently spotted him and called in Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office marked units to conduct a traffic stop.

Sheriff’s deputies tried to box in and stop the teen, but he crashed into a U.S. Marshals vehicle and then fled.

The pursuit only lasted about four or five miles before the suspect was forced to stop because of the damage to his vehicle.

The pursuit ended on I-59/20 near Ensley.
