“Hamilton,” a groundbreaking musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda, won Tony and Grammy awards, as well as a Pulitzer Prize. Performances in Birmingham been hotly anticipated since April 2020, when “Hamilton” first was announced for 2021-2022 season of the Broadway in Birmingham series.
COVID took its toll on Broadway in Birmingham, as it did on much of theater world, and “Hamilton” was postponed to the 2022-2023 season
“Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, ‘Hamilton’ has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre — a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics and education,” the show’s website says.
Creator Miranda, who played main character on Broadway, isn’t performing in the national tour, and audience won’t see actors from the original cast. A full list of actors for three touring casts can be found on the musical’s website, but it’s unclear which cast will perform in Birmingham.
