Want to play in Drew Breesâ pickleball tournament? Hereâs how
More than 300 players have already registered for the first NOLA Pickleball Fest, sponsored by former New Orleans Saints quarterback and his wife, Brittany, to benefit the Brees Dream Foundation, according to the foundation.
The event, slated for Aug. 10-13, was announced in May, with registration opening this week. The festival will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
The unique event will feature 24 tournament-style quality courts, live music, a celebrity match featuring Drew Brees, VIP experiences and more. Featured matches will be played on a center court with grandstand seating, with Kern Studio-built Mardi Gras floats on hand for VIP seating.
There will be three divisions of round-robin play: Women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles for skill levels 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 5.0. There will be two brackets: Open, and 50 years and older.
Registration opened Thursday morning and will continue until Aug. 2. As of mid-afternoon Friday, 317 players had already registered. The cost to enter is $90 per player and there is an option for players to request to be paired with a partner.

Brees, the future Hall of Fame quarterback, has quickly developed a passion for the fast-growing sport since his retirement from the NFL. Last July, he announced he had joined the ownership group for a Major League Pickleball franchise, according to NOLA.com.
The Brees Dream Foundation has raised more than $50 million for charitable causes worldwide since its inception in 2003. The foundation’s mission is to “help improve the quality of life for cancer patients and provide care, education and opportunities for children and families in need.”
