Walmart announces Thanksgiving day plans
The nation’s largest retailer is continuing its new Thanksgiving tradition.
Similar to Walmart will remain closed this Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23, 2023). The schedule change was confirmed in an announcement from Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner.
“I am delighted to share that once again, we’ll be closing our doors for Thanksgiving this year,” Furner said. “Thanksgiving is such a special day during a very busy season. We want you to spend that day at home with family and loved ones.
“We all have so much to be thankful for this year, and I’m especially thankful for the opportunity to work with all of you,” he added.
The closure is in keeping with Walmart’s policy since 2000. Stores typically close regular time the Wednesday before Thanksgiving then open early on Black Friday, the day after the holiday.
In recent years, more retailers have opted to remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, including Best Buy, Costco, Kohl’s, Sam’s Club and Target. Most have yet to announce plans for 2023.
